About About National Law Enforcement Day Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, L.E.A.D., is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization founded in April 2002 by Carolyn Duren. It was created as an advocate for law enforcement officers by providing national recognition for their dedication to the profession. It provides a medium in which to showcase law enforcement officers' accomplishments.
I left that courthouse saddened by the fact that those citizens had lost their regard for the law enforcement officers and our judicial system. These are the officers that put themselves on the line each day to serve and protect our way of life. I felt personally betrayed by the acts that I witnessed in the courtroom that day. I thought of that day over and over for several weeks. I decided that I could do something to make a difference in our officers' lives. That is when "National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" was founded. Mission StatementTo be a leader and passionate advocate for law enforcement officers by providing national recognition for their dedication to the profession. To provide a medium in which to showcase their accomplishments. To provide law enforcement officers and their children scholarships to continue education in the law enforcement profession. To assist with the implementation of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in other communities.
